Debunking Common Cruise Ship Myths

February 2, 2018

For many who have never been on a cruise before, the lead-up to your first cruise can be a mix of excitement and nerves. You’re ready for a fun vacation, of course, but there are also a number of common fears out there that some people carry if they’ve never been on a cruise ship before.

At Cruise Lady, we’re here to put these kinds of concerns to bed. Most of the issues you hear about are simply myths that have picked up steam over the years – let’s set the record straight and debunk a few big cruise ship myths.

The Ship Will Be Cramped

While it’s true that your cruise ship will hold many passengers, this is because it’s meant to – modern cruise ships are huge. They all have multiple large areas for passengers plus individual cabins for lodging, and there’s more than enough room for everyone to be on the ship with no crowding whatsoever. While the dimensions of your cabin will likely be a bit different than those you’re used to at home, you don’t have to worry about an overall lack of space.

I’ll Get Sick

While there have been a few very rare instances of illness outbreaks, it’s important to remember that this happens all over the world – not just on cruise ships. All our cruise ships are inspected every year and held to rigorous CDC standards for health and cleanliness, plus our staff is well trained on how to sanitize and clean important areas of the ship.

There Won’t Be Any Food I Like

Modern cruise ships have so many options for food that it’s almost impossible for this to be the case. Salad bars, pizzerias, buffets and various other areas will always be available, and that’s not even including all the port stops you’ll make where wonderful local foods will be available.

I’ll Be In Danger

While the media has given disproportionate attention to certain big accidents on cruise ships or related water vessels, the reality is that these events are incredibly rare. Thousands and thousands of cruise ships sail the oceans every year without any accidents, and your chances of being involved in one are virtually nonexistent.
